Icy Road And Most Offices Are Closed Today

When I woke this morning, I noticed the ground seems to be icy and sleet making it almost impossible for a lot of commuters to be safe on the roads. It would be wise to use a 4-wheel or all-wheel car if you have one to keep stable friction on the road. The news scoop said that Texas doesn't get this kind of weather usually in the winter season, most roads are not even well-maintained, making it very risky to be on the road. Therefore, a lot of public and private offices were announced closed.

In fact, I am supposed to have my biometrics for my green card renewal today when I read from the USCIS website that the local USCIS is closed today. What gets more frustrating is that they don't have the local # available, so I am sort of in a limbo what to do. It would be nice if they have one to save our trip. They said from the website that Biometrics centers (ASC) are privately contracted, though supervised by USCIS staff. So, they probably don't want to deal with a lot of phone inquiries. I have the USCIS # but it's all automated and it's impossible to get a hold to any customer service representative.

I will try my luck tom and see if they could accomodate me since it's on appointment basis only. Wish me luck!:-)

Nicer Days For Winter Season

The cold front is definitely in the air in most places. Although today in N. Texas, another great surprise when the sun rose bringing a somewhat fall temperature of 78F for the high. I took my daughter out for a walk in the park and just had a great time outside. How wonderful it is really to be blessed by such a warm, nice temperature. I definitely appreciate to be in a warmer place right now.

For almost 2 weeks that our folks were here, it's always a festive and fun ambiance. I was very comfortable and happy to have them around. They're very kind and generous people. I can't stress enough my gratitude to Jo for inviting us and saving me from the long line of waiting in the mall just to grab a photo with Santa. I definitely wanted Cassy to have a photo with Santa as this is her 2nd Christmas. Since she was only a newborn back then, i didn't manage to get her one. But this time, she finally has a photo souvenir with Santa. Well actually, I took several photos of her and Santa. Even got a family photo with Santa, although still have to ask Jo for the copy. I have been meaning to put this useful information in my blog especially for those moms who are feeding their babies with baby foods. On my daughter's 12-month routine check-up which had been 3 months ago. I threw a few questions to her pediatrician since I was noticing Cassy's skin color back then, turning like a pumpkin or orange/yellowish color. I was quite concerned since Cassy had jaundice when she was a newborn and I was worrying that it may had re-occur. Thankfully, her pediatrician eased my worries by providing me some information on Carotenemia. It is a harmless condition in which the skin turns a yellowish color from eating lots of certain foods. Unlike jaundice, the whites of the eye remain white. This happens most often between 6-18 months of age. Your child's skin turns a yellow-orange color because of the pigment (carotene) found in yellow vegetables (squash, carrots, sweet potatoes), as well as some fruits (such as oranges, apricots, peaches). Carotene is also found in green vegetables (for example green beans and peas). Breastfeed babies can also develop Carotenemia if their mother eats a lot of foods that are high in carotene. You do not need to have your child stop eating these foods unless you want to change child's skin tone.

After a return to a more normal diet, the Carotenemia color will disappear in 3 or 4 weeks. Even without dietary change, the skin color will gradually return to normal by 2 or 3 years of age.

To this day, Cassy still gets her normal food diet although she is now inclined to eating the real foods. I just make sure she gets enough of her much needed nutrition. Mind you, she really has a great appetite! Her pediatrician was right, she's back to her normal skin color. What a happy, healthy kiddo I got here!
